Mission
The University of Delaware Community Music School (UDCMS) is committed to providing quality music education to students of all ages and levels of ability.
About the University of Delaware Community Music School (UDCMS)
For the past ten years the UDCMS has provided private study lessons, early childhood classes, ensemble classes, and summer camps for more than 500 students a year. Each year we strive to add new and exciting offerings to our list of classes and camps. This year we are adding Suzuki flute to our program as well as new offerings in early childhood and string ensemble opportunities.
About the Department of Music
For more than sixty years the University of Delaware Department of Music, a full member of the National Association of Schools of Music, has been dedicated to the musical growth of its students and the cultural enrichment of the community. The department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Music Management as well as the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Theory/Composition, and Performance. The Master of Music degree is also offered in Performance, Conducting, and Music Education. Non-majors are welcomed into music minors in applied music, musical studies, jazz studies, music management, and church music. They also compete on an equal basis with majors for ensemble seating. In addition, the department makes a major commitment to the education of the general university student to the extent that approximately 1,000 students enroll each year in music appreciation courses, and more than 500 students earn academic credit by participating in the department’s music ensembles and performance programs.
