Children's Choir
Come and sing in Fall 2008!
The University of Delaware Children's Choir, under the direction of Linda Wardell, is the choral music education and performance program of the Department of Music's Community Music School at the University of Delaware. Any qualified child with a treble (unchanged) voice, in grades second through eighth, with a desire to sing in an outstanding choral ensemble may audition. Placement is based on musical and vocal readiness, emotional maturity, consistency of focus, attitude and leadership.
Mission
The Choir's mission is to provide children in the surrounding geographic area with the experience of artistic choral singing and performance of quality children's choral literature.
Goals
- To reach the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance.
- To provide an opportunity to produce, practice and perform repertoire of all styles and periods.
- To provide a program that is an extension of the music classroom and choral programs available.
- To enrich the lives of children from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds in the University of Delaware geographic area.

This program is open to singers grades second through eighth. The choir will be a performance based extension of the music education children receive in school. The singers will be auditioned to evaluate pitch matching, and both rhythmic and melodic reading abilities. The ensemble will rehearse once a week for 90 minutes beginning in early September, and coinciding with the school calendar. There will be an additional cost for uniforms.
About the Director
Linda Wardell is a graduate of West Chester University and the University of Delaware and holds B.S. and M.M. degrees in music education with a Master Certificate in Orff Schulwerk. Linda is a music specialist in the Pennsville School District in Pennsville, New Jersey where she teaches 1st through 5th general music, and has taught 5th grade and 7th & 8th grade choral ensembles. In 2001 she was awarded Teacher of the Year within the district. Linda has served as cooperating teacher for Rowan University, University of Delaware and West Chester University. In 2002, Linda joined the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus as Associate Conductor, and presently enjoys directing the "Joyful Noise Singers" children's choir that she founded in 1989 at Limestone Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. During the summer she directs the University of Delaware Community Music School Children's Choral Camp.
Registration Information
There is a registration fee of $25 per person.
Registration fees and full tuition are due with the application.
Multiple discount: 5% discount for two or more children.
Early Registration Discount: The $25 registration fee will be waived for applications received by August 15.
All Classes are held at the Amy E. duPont Music Building.

Withdrawals and Refunds
Withdrawals must be made within two weeks of the first class and must be submitted in writing to the UDCMS director in order to receive a refund. Non-attendance or verbal withdrawal to a faculty member does not constitute an official withdrawal. The date of withdrawal will be considered to be the date when written notice is received in the UDCMS office. Registration and material fees are non-refundable. A $10 processing fee will be charged for all refunds. Students who discontinue after the withdrawal date will be responsible for the entire fee.
