Enrollment Policies

Thank you for registering with the University of Delaware Community Music School (UDCMS). Every effort will be made to ensure the proper placement of students and the quality of instruction offered by the UDCMS. Below is a statement of policy concerning missed lessons, withdrawals and refunds.

Private Study Absence Policy

Student Absence

Teachers are not required to make up a lesson canceled by a student unless 24-hour notice is given. Due to time constraints, no more than one make-up lesson will be given per semester.

Teacher Absence

Any lesson missed as a result of a teacher's absence will be made up.

Class Absence Policy

Teacher Absence

A substitute teacher will be provided in the case of teacher illness or absence, or the class will be made up at the end of the semester by the regular teacher.

School Closing

When there is a decision to cancel classes due to weather, the class will be made up at the end of the semester.

In order to keep continuity within each class, students are not allowed to attend other classes as make-ups.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Withdrawals must be made within three weeks of the first lesson/class and must be submitted in writing to Tamara Smith in order to receive a refund. Nonattendance or verbal withdrawal to a faculty member does not constitute an official withdrawal. The date of withdrawal will be considered to be the date when written notice is received in the UDCMS office. Registration and material fees are non-refundable.

Students who discontinue instruction after the withdrawal date will be responsible for the tuition for the entire term. A $10 processing fee will be charged for all refunds.

Faculty Policy

UDCMS faculty are prevented by contract from teaching any former UDCMS students in any capacity other than through UDCMS.
